The CD drive that I had to install was not placed inside the case it was simply plug and play(connected via USB Cable). So when it was plugged in via the USB cable windows recognised automatically there was no real installation required! The drive had an external power supply, was not actually powered from the computer. There really wasnt much to other than plug into a socket and then plug it into the computer via USB. In some instances you may have to download drivers for the CD drive from the manufacturers website, although the hardware should come with a CD included that will have the drivers.
